I want to thank you for making this one of the best years, keeping me busy, helping me heal, truly finding my focus, achieving the goals set forth and coordinating + performing over 300 events without a single snag. I’m praying 2023 is just as amazing, or better, than you were 2022. Gonna miss you!

So…. #Beyonce done straight STOLE DJ Jimi and all the 90s New Orleans bounce shit and renamed it “Church Girl.” Now I know folk feel BeeHive can’t do no wrong, even after REINTERPRETING Maze’s “Before I Let Go.” MY PROBLEM with artist like her and Drake is they’re making millions from that New Orleans vibe and New Orleans culture, and being celebrated, while those New Orleans creators are still living in poverty, but stunting like they ball’n. They/We/Us ain’t making those billions, yet it’s what we create that enriches the megastars.
#HaSizzle said it best, that he and local artist should be on the national field by now, but the major artist keep jacking their shit; did you know HaSizzle’s “GetchaSum” video was pulled from YouTube? New Orleans bounce artist, jazz musicians, brass bands are outchere performing seven nights a week, $5 club covers, busking on street corners, but their/our imagery, pageantry and music is what makes hits for others.
But you see, the New Orleans artist ain’t gonna say nothing because they feel so “honored.” Plus, well, B do have a key to the city, so I guess it’s her culture too, now!
Now I have a strong feeling I know who’s behind a lot of this “cultural boring” and “insider production,” but imma keep that to myself… What’s y’all thoughts?
Focus and Priorities: It’s amazing to think this lil dude is now a senior in high school!
I’m blessed to have been able to make all the necessary sacrifices and professional adjustments to ALWAYS BE THERE FOR HIM TO LEAN ON AND LOOK UP TO. Not many Black Dad’s/Son’s are afforded the support and bonding growth we have, and for that, we’re blessed.
Onward and upward, because we gonna be twins this year, his senior year at St. Augustine High School @staugnola and my 30th celebration as a graduate. Let’s Go PURPLE!
Shoutout to my Dad, Dwight J. Miller, Sr. I was so fortunate to have the best role model, mentor, and international tour guide as my Father. All whom I’ve become is because of him. He left us far too soon, but his memory and impact will live on forever. Love Always
Finally coming down of the high’s of French Quarter Fest, Jazz Fest and nonstop private/corporate events… No one knew, but this was the hardest @jazzfest I’ve every performed, being it was the first one of my entire life without my dad. But I didn’t want to burden my musicians nor the audience with my personal pain, so I focused on Mahogany Brass Band’s 30th anniversary and consecutive JF performance. I simply told the musicians to do what they do best.
I held tears back for an hour. “Billy White Shoes” wasn’t there. That always slightly out-of-tune alto sax wasn’t there. Dwight’s tambourine wasn’t there.
Caught Up In The Rapture: Glenn David Andrews and I go way back to when he was a young man. We have a kindred spirit on stage. It was church and I asked him to come preach. I sent one text, and with no questions asked, he said, “Ill be there my brother.” Stand By Me was my choice of song. I forgot the intro, than trembled and fought back the tears, but @tremeprince understood the assignment and carried out the mission overwhelmingly. For those who supported us, in person and online via @wwoz_neworleans live broadcast, THANK YOU. There’s some major collaboration energy coming y’all way soon…

Start your day by knowing, most people you know personally aren’t happy for you nor rooting or supporting you. They’re putting more energy towards your falling and failing than your winning. And if you own a business, they also aren’t supporting, patronizing, sharing nor trying to help you win. They’re putting more negativity, talking behind your back, and hoping you fail. They don’t visit your social media to cheer for your victories; they’re looking for drama, negativity, “I told you so” moments.
I start everyday already knowing this, which is why I know my life, my post, my victories, my happiness, my wins, and my business success be pissing a whole lotta folk off. But let it be known, their lack of support doesn’t impact me, it validates me, makes me push harder, makes me pour salt in their wounds, and I ain’t got no drama in my life, so there’s that… But I gotta whole lotta Love, Happiness and Daily Success Stories!
Somebody needed to read/hear this today. Start your day knowing the only affirmation you need is YOURS and your spouse/partner (children and nuclear family), if they support you as much as my Chocolate Queen does for me, cause we know, Our Successes is ALL WE GOT!
And like my Dad always told me: “If a motherfucker ain’t showing up everyday helping you build, watch’em, cause that’s the motherfucker working overtime to destroy you!” I move the way I move because I know this, I’m aware. I start everyday knowing this.
